Baytown- Down 30-21 late in the third quarter, the Dayton Broncos never blinked an eye on Saturday night in their Class 5-A Region III Division II match-up with Port Neches-Groves and it showed as they would quickly turn the nine-point deficit into a 12-point lead in the blink of an eye and that would be the difference in the final outcome as Dayton would get a 56-44 win over the

Indians at Stallworth Stadium. The win moves the Broncos into the second round of the playoffs and a Friday night match-up with the Angleton Wildcats at Veterans Memorial Stadium in League City.

PN-G finishes its season at 7-4 and have lost five straight to Dayton. Kyle McBride, Dylan Moore, Jacarius Keener, and Jalen Styner keyed the offensive production on the night for the tune of 395-yards of offense.

McBride, who was inserted as the starting quarterback finished with 139-yards rushing on 25 carries while adding another 122 in the air on 14 of 24 passing. Moore and Styner each scored a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 87-yards each. Keener would return a punt for a score while catching five passes.

“Our offense carried us tonight,” said Bronco head coach Jowell Hancock. “The kids played very hard.”

Back and forth for the first 26-minutes of the game, the Indians would take their biggest lead of the night at the 3:51 mark of the third quarter on a Adam Morse to Caisen Sullivan 11-yard score to push the advantage to 30-21.

That is when Dayton would take over and score 21-points in the span of 2:41 of game time to go up 42-30.

The first score would see the Broncos march 62-yards on seven-plays with McBride hooking up with Moore on a 27-yard score to cut into the Indians lead to 30-28.

On the following kickoff it was the Dayton special teams setting up the next score by getting a Chase Wisegerber fumble recovery at the PN-G 30-yard line.

On the next play it was Styner covering the distance for the score and the Broncos had the lead for good at 35-30 with :20 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Dayton defense would then set up the next score as Randy Schuldt would jump on the loose pigskin at the Indians 39-yard line.

Five plays later it was Styner scoring on a 19-yard run and the Broncos led 42-30 with 9:56 left in the fourth quarter.

PN-G tried to stay close as Morse would hit Blake Lane for a 12-yard score to cut the Dayton lead to five with 7:44 left.

The Broncos would then answer with a score of their own as Moore would make it 49-37 with an 11-yard run midway through the final quarter. McBride had a big 42-yard run on the drive down to the Indians 13-yard line.

The Indians were not done yet and got a Morse to Sullivan 11-yard score and it was 49-44 with 3:30 remaining in the contest.

PN-G then tried an onside kick and was not successful and Dayton had recovered close to midfield.

Needing to milk the clock, the Broncos did more than that by putting the game out of reach on a McBride five-yard score with 1:42 left.

After both teams traded punts to start the game, PN-G would get the games first points as Morse would score on an eight-yard run to make it 7-0 with 3:14 left in the first quarter.

Late in the opening quarter it was Keener getting the Broncos on the board by returning an Indian punt 60-yards for the score and the game was tied at seven-apiece.

Brant Dykes would then put the Indians back in front at 10-7 with a 27-yard field goal at the 8:24 mark of the second quarter before the Broncos would take their first lead of the game as McBride would find Keandre Rose on a 17-yard score midway through the second quarter to make it 14-10.

PN-G would answer late in the first half as Brant Halfin would find the end zone from 25-yards to give the Indians the lead again at 17-14 with 1:13 left in the first half.

That would be too much time for the Dayton offense as they would go 51-yards for the half-time lead as McBride would score from 25-yards out and it was 21-17 at the half.

The Indians would take the second half kickoff and get a Morse to Kaleb Sparks 57-yard touchdown pass to retake the lead at 23-21 with 10:26 left in the third. Isaiah Chambers would add an interception on the night for the Broncos.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday night against Angleton.
