PORT NECHES -- Brandon Faircloth and Joe Dale Cary borrowed a halftime request from their dear friend, Olivia Newton-John, exhorting the offensive line to "get physical" after halftime Friday night.
The keenest ears in the Port Neches-Groves locker room belonged to Greg Lunceford, Kyler Nicotre, Patrick Braud, Ben Parks and Gabe Langlois. An upstart ball carrier named Chase Bertrand also heard the message from Faircloth, his head coach, and Cary, the offensive line coach.

PORT NECHES -- With Dominic Merka and Brennan Doty five yards behind their respective snappers, pass catchers may leave The Reservation with red, sore hands late tonight.
Two wide-open offenses -- Crosby and Port Neches-Groves -- with two senior, marquee quarterbacks collide in the Indians' home opener at 7:30, with two of the area's better coaching staffs trading lobs and salvos.

PORT NECHES -- After Oklahoma's remarkable 47-game winning streak ended, OU's stadium announcer informed fans the 1957 team's next streak would start the following week at Nebraska.
Do not expect a voice, such as Micah Murdock's or Tip Durham's, to proclaim a similar sentiment over Indian Stadium's public address speakers, but it says here that a new Port Neches-Groves win streak is only a "Cherokee" away.
Indians come up inches short

SAN ANTONIO - In a game decided by the slightest of margins, it was a matter of inches that kept Port Neches-Groves from a season-opening victory.
Trailing 30-29 in the game's final two minutes, the Indians found themselves facing a fourth and inches from the Gregory-Portland 22-yard line. A running attempt from a full house backfield by Chase Bertrand was halted for no gain by the Wildcats defense and Gregory-Portland escaped with a 30-29 victory over the Tribe at the Texas Football Classic Saturday at the Alamodome.

Port Neches-Groves kicks off its 86th football season Saturday at a Dome away from home -- farther from their Reservation than ever in history.
Those Texas Football promoters can rest assured the 72,000-seat San Antonio Alamodome will contain its share of purple shirts in the stadium and on the field when the Indians kickoff unveils at 3:45 p.m.

PORT NECHES — Rumor has it that the Port Neches-Groves Indians produced the only undefeated varsity and junior varsity regular seasons in Class 4A football in 2009. Rumor or not, PN-G chief Brandon Faircloth admitted two undefeated seasons in one program is a rarity.
Faircloth added how impressed he was with last year's JV squad and praised his coaching staff for grooming that group for the 2010 campaign, which begins Aug. 28 at San Antonio’s Alamodome against Gregory Portland.

All Purpose Facility Planned
The school board has approved the use of property and permitted the construction of an All Purpose Facility at PNG High School. The building would contain a 50 yard turf field and a 50 yard hitting net. It would enable students and athletes to practice indoors and protect them from the outside elements.
The building would be used by baseball, softball, golf, soccer, football, band, cheerleaders, as well as many other high school groups. The construction of the facility would be completely funded by donations.
Below are two pictures of what the building would look like.
